Imbolc is the first stirring of spring, halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It belongs to Brigid, keeper of the hearth, the forge and the holy wells, and it is kept with candles, clean hearths and the first green of the year. This year the Wolf Moon, the first full moon of 2027, rises ten nights before it.
Common practices
- Weaving a Brigid’s cross from rushes or straw
- Lighting candles in every window for the returning light
- Leaving a cloth out overnight for Brigid to bless
- Spring cleaning the hearth and the home
- Blessing seeds for the planting to come
