Tarot in New Orleans
New Orleans has a long, lived-in relationship with divination: voodoo on Congo Square, palmistry on Royal, fortune tellers in Jackson, mediums in Faubourg. Tarot belongs in this city the way coffee does. It's been part of the daily texture here for two centuries.
We host on-site readers because the café feels like the right room for it: slow, dim, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. You don't have to believe in anything for it to work. A good reader holds up a mirror, and the question becomes whether you're willing to look.

What Is a Tarot Reading?
A reading is a guided conversation, with cards as the focal point. You come in with a question or a situation. It can be specific (“should I take this job?”) or open-ended (“what am I missing?”). The reader pulls cards, interprets the pattern, and asks you questions back.
It's not fortune-telling. It's structured reflection. The cards don't tell you what to do. They show you what you already know, often the part you've been avoiding.
Sessions usually run 20 to 30 minutes. You can bring a friend or come alone. Some people take notes; some prefer to just listen.

How a Session Goes
What to Expect
- Walk in or book ahead. Both work. Walk-ins are welcome when a reader is in; booking guarantees your time slot.
- Sessions run 20 to 30 minutes. Prices vary by reader and are paid directly to them after the session (cash, Venmo, or card).
- Bring a question or don't. Some readers start with what's on your mind; others pull cards first and let the question reveal itself.
- It's a conversation. You can ask the reader to slow down, repeat, or clarify. You can stop the session early if it's not landing for you.
- Drinks come with you. You can take your latte or tea into the room. Most people do.

How much does a reading cost?
Prices vary by reader. You pay the reader directly at the end, in whatever form they accept (most take cash, Venmo, or card).
Do I need to book in advance?
Walk-ins are welcome when a reader is in. Booking guarantees your time slot, recommended on weekends or if you are traveling and the timing is tight.
What if I've never had a reading before?
Then this is a good place to start. Our readers are used to first-timers and will walk you through what is happening as it happens. No prior knowledge needed, just curiosity.
Can I bring a friend in?
Yes. Most readers are comfortable with one extra person observing. If you both want full readings, book them separately so each of you gets the time.
Is this religious?
No. Tarot is a contemplative practice, not a religion. Readers come from a range of traditions (intuitive, spirit-led, astrological, shadow-work). Pick the one whose framing makes sense to you, or just go with whoever is reading the day you visit.
Can the reading predict the future?
It is not really what tarot does. A reading shows you the energy and patterns around a question: what is pulling on you, what you might be avoiding, what choices you actually have. The future is something you make from there.
