What to Order at Witches Brew

A walkthrough of the menu, broken down by what you already drink.

Witches Brew Coffee Co. · 2940 Canal St · New Orleans

You walked in. The bar is full of bottles, the menu has thirteen tea blends with names like The Magician and The Shadow, and the signature drinks are called things like Faerie Fog and Witches Bloom. A little overwhelm is normal.

Here’s the honest version of what to order on a first visit, broken down by what you already drink.

I
If You’re a Latte Person

Get a regular latte the first time. Our espresso is in-house and you’ll have a baseline to judge everything else against.

When you’re ready to step up, the Witches Bloom is the move. It’s our hot signature — vanilla and lavender, floral but not soap, sweet but not cloying. It’s what we hand to people who say “I want to try a signature, what should I get?”

II
If You Drink Iced Coffee

Get our nitro cold brew from the draft. Cleaner mouthfeel than regular iced coffee, no bitterness, no melted-ice dilution. Most people who try it don’t go back to the diluted version.

When you want a signature, Ash & Honey is the upgrade. Nitro cold brew with honey-cinnamon and cold foam. The nitro base makes it taste layered rather than muddled, which is what bad versions of this drink usually are.

III
If You’ve Heard Us Called a Matcha Shop

We are. Order the Rose Garden Ritual first — iced matcha latte with rose, vanilla, and cold foam. It’s our most-ordered matcha latte and the easiest entry point. The rose tempers the matcha enough to ease you in without hiding it.

If you want the matcha unmasked, ask for a straight matcha, or the nitro matcha latte on draft. The nitro draft is the format Kyoto would not recognize and that we would defend in court — same single-origin Mizuba powder, served on tap.

IV
If You’d Rather Have Tea

Every tea on our menu is loose leaf, brewed in a six-ounce cup, steeped six to nine minutes. Sourced in bulk from Wild Coast Brew on the Oregon coast. Thirteen blends, plus yaupon.

Two places to start:

The Queen

Our Earl Grey blend — Lapsang Souchong, vanilla bean, orange peel, lavender, bergamot. If you’ve been drinking grocery-store Earl Grey your whole life, this is the version that ruins it for you.

Marfa Yaupon

Dark-roasted yaupon holly, the only caffeinated plant native to North America. Pre-Columbian Southeastern Indigenous peoples drank it for centuries. Tastes like a soft, earthy black tea. About half the caffeine.

If you want a tea latte, most of our teas can be built that way — with milk and a touch of vanilla or honey-cinnamon syrup. Ask the barista. The signature version is the Faerie Fog, a London Fog–style latte built on our Royal Earl Grey base.

V
If You Want Something That Isn’t Coffee or Tea

Get the Fireside Ritual. It’s real drinking chocolate — single-family Nicaraguan, melted into hot milk with a touch of half-and-half and our house honey-cinnamon syrup. We serve it small because if you serve drinking chocolate in a sixteen-ounce cup it cools off and develops a film. Drink it while it’s hot.

This is not hot cocoa. It is actual chocolate dissolved in hot milk. The mouth-feel and depth are noticeably different. If you’ve never had drinking chocolate made with real chocolate instead of powder, this is your entry point.

VI
About the Add-Ons

Alternative milks are behind the bar — three options, small surcharge.

House syrups too — vanilla, lavender, caramel, white chocolate, brown sugar, chocolate, honey-cinnamon, hazelnut, raspberry, blueberry, orange blossom, cardamom. Several are made in-house (vanilla, rose, honey-cinnamon) and noticeably different from the brand-name versions; the others are quality bottled.

Decaf is always available, no extra charge. For more on coffee at WB specifically, see our coffee guide.

VII
One Thing Worth Knowing

Half of one percent of every coffee sale we make goes to Tomato Club Rescue, the first orphan neonatal kitten rescue in Louisiana. If you ever wanted to drink a latte and know that a fraction of it funded a bottle nipple for a foster kitten, this is the place to do that.

Loose-leaf tea is on the back wall. Signatures are on the chalkboard above the bar. Whatever you order, the barista has opinions — ask. We like talking about the drinks.
